Internship description

Empowered Women International (EWI) seeks an Community Partnerships Intern with an interest in learning aboutcommunity development and organizing, partnership building, client engagement, recruitment, and volunteer management.

Work closely with the Program Manager and the Outreach Coordinator to:

1) Expand EWI's outreach efforts to culturally diverse communities in the Greater Washington DC area

2) Expand recruitment efforts to sustain an on-going enrollment of client applicants for our entrepreneur incubator

3) Develop and implement strategies to recruit and manage mentors, volunteers, and business coaches

4) Build new strategic partnerships, cultivate existing ones, and develop mutually-beneficial incentives. This is an unpaid internship.

Qualifications

  • Strong prior experience in community development and organizing
  • Ability and/or experience to make presentations and build mutually beneficial partnerships and develop client engagement and recruitment strategies
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Highly organized and attention to detail a must
  • Ability to learn, adapt quickly, and work in a fast-paced environment,
    manage time, and balance multiple projects
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Understanding of and dedication to EWI's vision and mission
  • Professional attitude and ability to represent EWI in meetings and presentations
  • Interest or experience in working with immigrant, refugee, or low-income
    community
  • Ability to deal with information in a confidential manner and respond with
    sensitivity to the opinions of others
  • Creative, enthusiastic, positive and energetic outlook
  • High sense of responsibility, problem solving skills, results oriented, and resourceful
  • Ability to take initiative and work both independently and as a team
  • Proficiency in computer skills including database, spreadsheet, Internet, social media, website, and office applications
  • May perform other job duties as directed by supervisor
  • Must have a personal computer and be willing to use it for the work assigned

  • Letter of recommendation upon request from the president of EWI

Your supervisor will work with you to create a regular work schedule and set up specific goals and projects.

Hours & Location

–Flexible schedule with a minimum of 20 hours per week.

–Must be willing to work some evenings and weekend events, as needed.

–Some telecommuting possible.

We are conveniently located in Old Town Alexandria, about 6 blocks from the blue and yellow line King Street Metro.

This is an unpaid internship.
