THE ORGANIZATION

The Tanenbaum Center for Interreligious Understanding promotes mutual respect with practical programs that bridge religious difference and combat prejudice in areas of armed conflict, schools, workplaces, and health care settings.

THE PROGRAM

Tanenbaum pioneered the work in religious diversity in the workplace. We conduct national surveys and work directly with national and international corporations, government agencies, institutions of higher learning and leading not-for-profits to train them on how to address issues of religious bias and accommodation in an increasingly diverse workforce. We provide briefings and workshops, webinars, panel discussions, policy reviews and consulting on best practices. In fact, a global study by the International Labor Organization of the U.N. cited Tanenbaum as one of only a few organizations worldwide doing this work.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Workplace Intern reports to the Workplace Assistant Program Director and will work 10-15 hours weekly.

The Workplace Intern will be responsible for supporting a growing program through research, outreach and contributions to the creation of program materials.

Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Research and understand common diversity and inclusion initiatives, with an emphasis on workplace discrimination and religious accommodation.
  • Draft memoranda and analyses of breaking issues for program and executive staff
  • Coordinate all phases of outreach to potential clients: Research potential targets, draft outreach materials and conduct follow-up
  • Assist in coordination of Tanenbaum training events/webinars and in production of training materials
  • Assist in drafting and editing of materials for Tanenbaum website
  • Provide administrative support for the Assistant Program Director (e.g., filing, correspondence, scheduling)

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS

  • Commitment to the mission and goals of Tanenbaum
  • Ability to analyze data and create clear written materials
  • Interest in organizational development, diversity and inclusion, employment discrimination law or general religion/workplace issues
  • Strong research skills
  • Organized
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Computer skills, especially LexisNexis/WestLaw, PowerPoint and Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity analyzing legislation and case law
  • Sense of humor

All work produced for Tanenbaum by the intern is the work product of Tanenbaum and may not be used by the intern outside of Tanenbaum-authorized activities.

COMPENSATION:

The Workplace Intern is an unpaid position. Tanenbaum will work with you and your school so that you receive academic credit for the internship.
