Refugee Community Organizer Internship

Description

Overview of position: The Refugee Community Organizer Intern will help identify leaders in the United Nations' refugee Tucson Community. The Intern will assist in the training of community leaders to organize groups to become involved in Iskashitaa's programs. The intern will contact local Mutual Assistance Associations to provide information about Iskashitaa's services and educational materials.

Specific Tasks:

  1. Create and compile educational materials and flyers
  2. Research and identify community leaders among refugee ethnic/cultural groups
  3. Contact Mutual Assistance Associations
  4. Distribute Iskashitaa's promotional information and educational materials

Time Required: 6-9 hours per week. Equivalent of 2 or 3 credit course hours.

Qualifications: 4 year degree or 2 year associate's degree or the equivalency in experience

Skills/Education:

  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong oral communication and writing skills
  • Interest and/or experience in food justice, sustainability and refugee resettlement
  • Preferred multi-lingual capacity or experience working with multilingual populations- Languages utilized Kiswahili, Nepali, French, Somali, Arabic (not required)
  • Previous experience in community organizing

Experience: Minimum of two year previous nonprofit or volunteer work or the equivalent

Training Required: On-site Iskashitaa training, Refugee 101 and internship application.
