Organization Overview

CPSD is an advocacy network of national disability organizations committed to empowering citizens who live with complex disabilities through high-impact, innovative public policy reform. We promote policy reform aimed at empowering individuals with complex intellectual, developmental and cognitive by:

  • Providing opportunities for meaningful engagement in the areas of education, employment, social interaction, and community engagement;
  • Eliminating current obstacles and creating viable incentives to empower individuals to live and work in integrated settings, generate income, and save for their future; and
  • Customizing public supports based on the unique needs of individuals with significant disabilities throughout the lifespan through self-direction and individual budgeting to promote their lives as productive citizens within their communities.

Job Qualifications
Open to undergraduate or graduate student interested in communications, public affairs and/or federal advocacy. Candidate must have excellent oral communication, research, organization, and writing skills. Familiarity with policy organizations and federal policy a plus.

Job Description
The intern will work closely with the executive director and collaboration partners in all CPSD efforts and will:

  • Draft letters, fact sheets, action alerts, and other advocacy materials
  • Develop messaging and updates for CPSD's social media outlets including Facebook, Twitter, and our web site
  • Draft content for our new web site and assisting web site developers with images, wording, etc.
  • Drafting press releases, op-eds, and Letters to the Editor templates
  • Assist in managing web site and drafting blog posts
  • Assist in creating listserve messages
  • Develop template power point presentations and documents for CPSD

This position comes with a stipend. Interns are hired for employment on the academic semester schedule for fall, spring, and summer terms.

Hours are flexible and most work can be done remotely, though candidates must be in the DC area.
