Maisha Collective Fall Intern

Program Overview: Heshima Kenya is a Chicago based nonprofit that works to protect and empower unaccompanied refugee young women and girls, including their children, who have been displaced by war and are living alone in Nairobi, Kenya. In order to support their journey to independence, Heshima Kenya developed the Maisha Collective, a peer-driven initiative that fosters leadership and business management skills through the design and production of unique hand-dyed scarves.

We are looking for an intern to assist with all Maisha Collective related events, programs and communications. You will have the opportunity to gain experience in an international non-profit, while gaining significant experience in event planning, business and marketing, communications and fashion design.

Intern Responsibilities:

  1. Developing and identifying new events, retail outlets and new partners.
  2. Facilitating and coordinating all Maisha Collective events, with assistance from volunteers.
  3. Work for at least 20 hours a week.
  4. Complete and submit weekly schedules at the end of each week.
  5. Respond to all communications in a timely manner.

Preferred Qualifications and interests:

  1. Bachelor degrees in International Relations/Studies/Affairs, Business, Marketing, Communications, Economics, Fashion Design
  2. Excellent communication skills
  3. Excellent writing skills
  4. Experience planning and attending events
  5. Positive, upbeat attitude and honest
  6. Great administrative skills
