Internship description

Help women and minority entrepreneurs while getting Business Development experience! Young and seasoned professionals may apply.

Motiso Group provides business development support by creating a network of opportunities for our women and minority owned business enterprises (WMBE) to increase market performance and develop their organizations for long-term growth. We are a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit that provides affordable business development consulting through the Center for Minority Entrepreneurship.

We are seeking a Business Development (BD) Intern to champion the cause of WMBEs by helping them become more successful with more opportunities to grow their businesses. The perfect Intern is results-oriented, enjoys the challenge of the hunt, and can think outside the box. This person could be someone who wants to learn the BD process and/or get BD experience that can be demonstrated. We welcome college graduates, young professionals, seasoned professionals, and retired citizens to apply.

Our Business Development Intern will execute the company's business development strategy to leverage our strengths and strategic partnerships to generate revenues. The Intern will work under the direction of the Development Officer while facilitating the development and execution of the business development strategy.

Essential duties under the Development Officer's guidance:

  • Build Strategic Alliances: Identify similar and complementary organizations whose member constituents will benefit by offering Motiso's services to WMBEs.
  • Sponsorship Solicitation: Meet with commercial large and small businesses to solicit annual program sponsorships.
  • Grant Funding: Develop grant proposals and respond to RFPs in the acquisition of federal, state, and local entity funding.
  • Program Enrollment: Conduct marketing activities to sign-up WMBEs into the program.
  • Program Support: Solicit and sign-up Business Development professionals interested in providing services to WMBEs in our program.
  • Relationship Building: Attend networking events to raise awareness of Motiso's mission.
  • Market Trending: Advise the Development Officer on sales and marketing trends, and emerging development in client programs and the external market.

Qualifications and expertise:

  • A desire to help women and minority entrepreneurs.
  • A desire to learn.
  • Results driven.
  • College training in Business Administration, Management, or Marketing.
  • Relationship building skills.
  • Strong critical thinking skills.
  • Strong communication skills – including verbal and written.
  • Professional.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred but not required:

  • Experience in business development, consultative sales, or sales management.
  • Experience in Health Care, Information Technology, Construction, or Food Services.
  • Commercial or Government experience.
  • Adobe Acrobat.
  • HTML websites.
  • Social media management.

Work requirements:

  • Expected work hours are 10-20 hours per week.
  • Remote work with some office meetings in VA, DC, or MD.
  • Travel expenses will be reimbursed for travel in the DC Metropolitan Area.
  • Potential for full-time work in the near future.
  • With excellent performance, there is a potential for a financial bonus.
