International Relations - Paid Summer 2013 Internship

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of International Relations, the intern who will especially appreciate this opportunity would likely be a student pursuing studies in the fields of International Relations, Public Policy, Economic and Cultural Development, Political Science, Community Organizing, and related fields. The Intern will provide support to both the Director and the Assistant to the Director of International Relations, and will gain professional experience communicating with the diplomatic and non-profit communities in New York. The intern will assist the department in planning and developing programs pertaining to international affairs, cooperation, and understanding between cultures.

Position Accountabilities

  • Assist in executing all program activities, including classes, nonprofit institution visits, leisure activities, transportation, and catering
  • Accompany and guide participants throughout New York City as they participate in tours, visits, and classes
  • Assist with standard office support duties (e.g. filing, faxing, office errands, ordering office supplies, petty cash, paying vendors, scheduling meetings)
  • Correspond by phone, email, and in person on behalf of the Director of International Relations
  • Perform follow-up duties for 2013 program and process applications for 2014 program
  • Create at CD with photos, movies and music that will summarize the entire fellowship. Copies of the CD will go to 2013 Ford Fellows, 92Y leadership and staff, and Ford Motor Company Fund executives.
  • Perform other duties as requested

Position Qualifications

Requirements: Enrolled in an undergraduate program, excellent organizational skills, deadline-oriented, detail-oriented, and works well under pressure. Excellent Communication and Interpersonal skills, interest in international issues. International living/work experience and proficiency in other languages a plus. Excellent computer and word-processing ability (Microsoft Word and Excel), strong research skills, flexibility in working in a unique and exciting workplace environment.

Hours of Work:

May 20-June 30, as needed (early morning to late night)

July 1-August 9, 10 am-6 pm
