LAC-Work Study Internship

Description

Family Care International (FCI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safer around the world. FCI advocates for sexual and reproductive health and rights at the global, regional, and country levels; builds the capacity of local partners in Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean; and develops information and training materials. FCI is headquartered in New York, with field offices in sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean.

FCI's LAC program is currently looking for a self-motivated student in public health, international affairs or relevant field for a part-time work study internship position during Spring 2013.

The intern will work on a part-time basis (2-3 days per week). Through this work, the intern will be exposed to a broad range of issues in the field of global reproductive and maternal health, will perform research, draft reports and will gain an understanding of the essential programmatic and business functions of an international non-governmental organization.

The Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) Division

This internship position is available on a non-paid basis provided that applicant is pursuing academic credit for this work study internship.

The Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) Division

  • Provide support to organization of LAC
  • Support planning of regional and national outreach workshops, including high-level "Women Deliver" Regional Consultation
  • Support implementation of communication plan for disseminating adolescent health materials
  • Assist with Coordination of Regional Task Force on Maternal Mortality Reduction, including, writing content for the group's website
  • Donor research for LAC projects (in collaboration with Development)

Skills

  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of Spanish a must (verbal & written)
  • Good proofreading and editing skills required.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office.
  • Interest in women's health and rights issues
  • Allintern positions include administrative duties related to the tasks at hand.

Terms

  • Currently attending graduate or undergraduate school, majoring in public health, international affairs or relevant field
  • Academic credits to be awarded for this nonpaid work study internship assignment
