Raphael House, founded in 1971, is the oldest family transitional residential program in San Francisco. Raphael House, a non-profit corporation, serves homeless and formerly homeless families through the Residential and AfterCare Programs. We are currently seeking a Development Intern to help with all facets or our annual fundraising campaign. The primary duties of the Development Intern are to oversee the input and maintenance of the Raphael House donor database. The position also requires working with the development team with regard to all donor services and fundraising activities. These activities include; assisting with the creation of effective marketing collateral, helping the team manage donor relationships, and assisting with our written, video, and online communications.

TITLE: Development Intern

DEPARTMENT: Development Office

DIRECT REPORT: Development Manager

Duties:

  • Assisting the Development Manager in processing gifts from donors and entering other salient information about donors, volunteers and other stake holders on Raisers Edge software.
  • Assisting the Development Manager in donor database management.
  • Generating acknowledgements for all donor gifts using the batching/mail-merge system to efficiently process and transmit a receipt and acknowledgement for donations.
  • Producing acknowledgements for regular donors using MS Publisher.
  • Assisting with writing effective grant requests from foundations and corporate foundations and management of those relationships.
  • Creating donor appeals, newsletters and marketing collateral.
  • Assisting with effective fundraising events.
  • Helping the team to produce effective individual donor programs.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Interest in cultivating the skills necessary for fundraising in a non-profit organization.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Familiarity with database use and management.
  • Familiarity with office environments, Internet, e-mail, general office equipment.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Resourceful, self-starting self-motivated.
  • Willingness to take direction and to learn new skills.
