San Francisco Tenants' Rights Intern
Background
Every year, hundreds of people are displaced from San Francisco due to wrongful eviction, lack of affordable housing, the foreclosure crisis, gentrification and the economy. Many people facing wrongful eviction and other serious tenants issues aren't able to fight for their rights because they can't get affordable legal help.
CJJC provides free tenant counseling and case management for low-income residents of Oakland and San Francisco through our Tenants' Rights Clinic. We do not have attorneys on staff, but can help if a tenant is having problems with repairs, rent increases, evictions, harassment and other problems, or if they need advice regarding fair housing and discrimination.
Because of the large demand for our services, we are looking for a Tenants' Rights Intern to help add capacity to our San Francisco Tenants' Rights Clinics. We are looking for interns who want to make a difference in the housing crisis, and who have a passion for social change work with low-income communities of color. You will receive basic training in tenant rights to start, and ongoing opportunities for further training and political education.
Responsibilities:
Time commitment:
Working hours (Intern will select 2-3 shifts):
Qualifications:
We believe everyone has a right to safe, dignified and affordable housing and that working class communities are a vital part of our cities. We believe that strengthening tenant rights is a critical way to prevent the displacement of working class low-income families, along with grassroots organizing for social change. We are a multi-racial organization bringing together African-American and Latino immigrant communities to fight for daily bread-and-butter survival struggles (like paying rent or getting jobs) with a deeply transformational vision for a progressive future.
Help fight for working class families by becoming a Tenants' Rights Intern!
