The Jane Addams Resource Corporation (JARC) promotes strong communities, businesses and households to ensure that people who work do not live in poverty. JARC builds healthy communities through workforce, economic, and human development. Our mission is to help people improve their skills so they can advance both personally and professionally.

JARC is a key regional site for the Center for Working Families (CWF), an innovative program that is intended to increase financial stability among low-income residents in neighborhoods throughout Chicago. CWF helps families and individuals become more financially secure by providing clients with Financial Education, Income Supports, and Employment Services. We are accomplishing this goal through every phase of the job seeking process, from initial screening and overcoming barriers to one-on-one coaching and resume writing. JARC's training programs target in-demand industries (CNC Machine Operation, Welding, IT) and occupations that offer family sustaining wages, benefits and authentic career paths.

The Employment Services Intern will get hands-on research and client services experience by providing our clients with job leads and assisting them with mock interview practice. The internship offers the opportunity for workforce development training, direct client contact, and experience working in a leading social service agency.

This position is unpaid with a flexible weekly schedule of 5 – 12 hours a week.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct mock interviews with clients to prepare them for real job interviews while giving them practical and honest feedback
  • Assist clients with generating or editing resumes, cover letters, and thank you letters
  • Maintain job board with up-to-date and relevant postings
  • Research potential employers, job market trends, and training programs
  • Research grant options that would assist clients with transportation needs
  • Provide and maintain Job Club, assisting clients with computer and job applications
  • Assist clients with navigating online job applications and research

Qualifications:

  • Enthusiasm for motivating and supporting individuals in becoming economically self-sufficient
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Strong research skills and experience
  • Good time management skills and the ability the prioritize projects
  • Ability to meet deadlines and present information in a clear and concise manner
  • Good attitude, patience, and desire to learn from working on various projects as they arise
