Mercado Global is a social enterprise with an innovative approach to fighting poverty and empowering women in rural Guatemala. By providing business development support and connecting artisan cooperatives to sales opportunities in the U.S. on an unprecedented scale, Mercado Global is helping its partner artisans to be a source of change in global sourcing practices.

Position Overview: Mercado Global provides capacity-building workshops for our partner artisans in various program areas. The purpose of this fellowship is to further develop and finalize the community-based education curricula that are utilized in these workshops. The fellow will work with the Training Coordinator and Operations Manager to strengthen our existing curricula, to identify areas where new curriculums are needed, and to develop these new curricula in areas such as nutrition, women's health (family planning, cervical cancer, stress), hygiene, financial literacy, women's empowerment and leadership, small business development, quality control,and US market awareness. The fellow will also help to identify local NGOs in Guatemala that could potentially partner with Mercado Global long-term to aid with future curriculum development and to bring medical brigades to the communities in which our partner artisans live.

Key responsibilities: In collaboration with the Training Coordinator in Guatemala and the Operations Manager in the U.S.:

-Identify where existing curricula need strengthening and implement any necessary changes

-Identify program areas where new curricula are needed and develop these curricula (curricula will be written in Spanish)

-Identify and assess local NGOs for possible partnership with Mercado Global

-Assist with evaluation development and implementation

Key Qualifications:

-Fellow must have proficient knowledge and experience with at least one of the following: US Market Understanding, Financial Literacy, and Health & Nutrition

-Must have either professional or academic experience in community-based curriculum development

-Educated in Public Health or International Development (or currently pursuing a degree) or related degree

-Proficiency in Spanish, verbal and written, is required

-Full-time commitment preferred, but part-time will be considered

-2 month commitment, depending on FT/PT

-Experience working with Latin American populations a plus, but not required

-Enthusiasm for Mercado Global's mission

Location:

-The fellow will work in our office Panajachel, Guatemala.
