Internship description

As a Health Care Policy & Organizing intern, you will work directly with the Chicagoland Organizer on a wide range of projects aimed at implementation of a pro-consumer health benefits exchange as outlined in the Affordable Care Act.

Interns will have the opportunity to contribute to efforts in the following ways:

  • Engage in advocacy efforts on behalf of consumers in coalition with other organizations and groups.
  • Drafting letters, fact sheets, action alerts, and other advocacy materials.
  • Tracking news and research
  • Assisting in creating Listservs and database maintenance for our web-based action alert system
  • Assist organizers in outreach to other advocacy organizations, religious groups, labor organizations, elected officials, businesses, and citizen activists
  • Assisting organizers in coordinating campaign events to engage citizens and pressure targets
  • Assist in planning, coordinating and facilitating regular meetings of community members to discuss issues, meet with local legislators, and plan campaign strategy
  • Conduct educational activities for community members to inform them of issues that are impacting consumers across Illinois.
  • Recruit "story sharers" to help inform, educate and mobilize the public and lawmakers.
  • and conduct other clerical and office duties as needed.

DETAILS OF INTERNSHIP: • Supervision: Intern will be supervised by the Chicago CBHC staff • Compensation: While internships are not paid positions, academic credit has been arranged in the past and can be arranged. • Hours: Interns are expected to work a minimum of 12 hours per week. • Duration: Summer and/or Fall semester. 12 weeks minimum.
