The centre is community-owned and therefore largely staffed by local volunteers. We are seeking the assistance of an international volunteer to supplement the skills of local volunteers and provide administrative and teaching support.
This opportunity would suit someone who has experience of administration or teaching young children who is looking to help develop a project from the grass roots. The ability to work with the community to develop the project is essential. Candidates will need adaptability, enthusiasm and patience.
All volunteers will be given the opportunity to continually develop through formal training sessions, observing professional practice and regular forums to discuss best teaching practice. All volunteers will receive child protection training prior to the opening of the school and background checks will be performed to ensure the safety of children registered at the center.
Teaching staff will meet twice prior to opening the schools to coordinate their term plans. They will then meet with the community to discuss learning needs for the children and discuss the proposed curriculum.
- Start date is flexible, however, volunteers will be asked to commit to one month. - Language and cultural lessons will be provided. - A home stay will be organized by UYWEFA for a small monthly fee. - Volunteers will have the opportunity to participate on many other projects that UYWEFA is currently implementing.
