Internship description

Hell's Kitchen Farm Project is seeking interns for the 2013 season. The rooftop farm is in its third season and located in midtown Manhattan.
A collaboration a collaboration between Metro Baptist Church, Rauschenbush Metro Ministries (RMM) and the Clinton Housing Development Company, the farm operates with the goal of providing greater access to fresh and safe food. The farm directly supplies a weekly food pantry in the same building each week during the growing season - All produce goes to Hell's Kitchen residents in acute need of emergency food.
A second prong in our work is the creation of a Hell's Kitchen Farm Project CSA. The CSA, like the farm, will be in it's third season.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Watering plants and maintaining systems multiple days/week
  • Harvesting and processing produce
  • General farm duties as assigned
  • Assist in community outreach, online marketing and emails
  • Assist in teaching and working with community and volunteers on site
  • Prepare CSA pick-up lists and check member accounts
  • Assist weekly CSA set-up, distribution and break-down
  • Assist in coordinating community wide events and volunteer days.
  • Clean up at conclusion of events; cleaning and storing tools, supplies and any furniture

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Applicant must be self-motivated and be able to work independently
  • Must be able to lift 30lbs
  • Must be able to work with volunteers and community groups
  • Ability to use hand tools required
  • Ability to climb stairs required
  • Willingness and ability to work in varying weather conditions, including heat and rain

Interns work 2-3 days per week, averaging 10 hours of work per week.
Weekday availability preferred as well as one Saturday per month. Interns will receive supervision, on-site training, and credit through their educational institution.

Compensation to be discussed and dependant upon experience
