Events & Public Relations Intern

About Starfish Project:

Starfish Project was established in 2006 to empower exploited women in Asia. The Project developed a socially responsible jewelry business in order to provide women with alternative employment and a range of holistic care opportunities. In 2011, the project has grown to support approximately 35 women in 2 different cities, primarily through the jewelry company where women have taken on new levels of responsibility and leadership, and are able to provide for their families through meaningful employment. Starfish Project also provides opportunities for women to heal and grow through counseling, vocational training, language acquisition, family education benefits and health care access, as well as providing housing in our women's shelter. Location: Asia Office

Department: Operations, Sales & Marketing

Purpose of Role: To increase Starfish Project's visibility, professional network, and revenue by coordinating social, sales, and fundraising events

Commitment: 6 months – 1 year, part-time (intern)

Reports to: Sales & Marketing Coordinator

Staff directly reporting to this position: Volunteers

Other Information: The Events & Public Relations Internship has the option of being a Work/Study internship. Work/Study Internships allow for approximately 10 hours/week of in-class language studies at a local language institution.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate social, fundraiser, and sales events
  • Assist with coordination of Christmas bazaar sales events from November-December
  • Maintain regular communication with participating vendors
  • Create and execute day-of coordination including event schedule, staffing, set-up, clean-up, and follow-up with vendors
  • Work with graphics designer to create posters, banners, and other publicity materials
  • Create comprehensive budgets for event needs
  • Maintain database of Starfish contacts and supporters
  • Publicize events to Asia-based publications and professional networks
  • Network with Asia-based companies and organizations to forge partnerships with Starfish Project
  • Oversee volunteers assisting with events planning
  • Maintain sales and set-up systems for sales events

Education and Experience

  • Attention to detail and organization
  • Experience in sales, events planning and/or management
  • Strong networking abilities and/or base in social media
  • An aesthetic eye and strong sense of branding
  • Outgoing personality, excellent people skills
  • Intermediate spoken Chinese, a plus
  • Professional demeanor and communication style
