We seek a passionate individual who cares about increasing quality client relationships and sales channels in order to enable higher earnings for the artisans working in Awamaki's Women's Cooperatives program. Awamaki's business model is based on fair trade principles and sustainability, therefore we look for interns whose passions align with our values. The position is for somebody with a knack for doing business and striking deals that can be right for both Awamaki and its clients. Interns play an essential role at Awamaki, as their work makes an enormous difference in our programs and in the lives of our women. Interns have the opportunity to gain essential experience in business administration, fair trade, social enterprise, ethical sourcing and design, marketing & communications, and non-profit management.

Typical tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Report and work closely with Director of Impact and Sales as well as design and production team
  • Proactively call/email prospective clients in target markets
  • Answer sales emails and qualify new leads
  • Generate new sales channels, improve upon existing ones
  • Assist with exporting/shipping tasks and materials
  • Assist with trade show preparation
  • Oversee quality control of final product (esp. exported products)
  • Maintain quality relationships with current and prospective clients
  • Build email/social media campaigns
  • Build prospective client lists for and conduct market research for Lima, Cusco, US and Europe
  • Help with over-all strategic direction of the sales team
