Internship description

Smart Growth America is seeking an enthusiastic intern to work on the Local Leaders Council program – a national network of elected and appointed leaders in cities across the nation. The intern will work closely with the Local Leaders team to develop tools and resources for network members. Core responsibilities will include: research on best policies and practices, drafting of briefs, editing of video interviews on smart growth topics, and administrative support as needed.

Requirements
This position requires a detail-oriented person with strong research and writing skills and a significant interest in smart growth subjects such as affordable housing, transportation choices, economic development, social equity, etc. The project can be a high paced environment, especially during special events, and will sometimes require fast turn around on work products. The person taking this position will gain substantial knowledge on smart growth policy, will support municipal decision makers around the nation, and will become a core team member with a customized work portfolio.

Candidates must have completed at least the second year of college. Given the high level of responsibility associated with this internship, graduates and postgraduates are also encouraged to apply.

Compensation, location and time frame
The position is based in Washington, DC and available to be filled immediately. The full time internship is 40 hours per week, and requires a minimum 12-week commitment. Interns will receive a stipend of $500 per month. If the intern is in college or graduate school, she or he may be eligible to receive academic credit.
