Hostelling International USA, San Diego Council (HI-San Diego) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to promoting global awareness through travel. We host thousands of travelers each year at two hostel locations in San Diego, and introduce responsible travel to the San Diego community through educational outreach programs. Every year, we host an annual meeting and party to showcase our organization to the San Diego community and raise funds. The event will be in September or October of 2010, and it typically includes a keynote speaker, food, and a live and/or silent auction. The intern will be responsible for coordinating the 2010 annual meeting and party and overseeing a volunteer planning committee.
Key Responsibilities:
--Oversee the Special Events Committee in planning the annual meeting and party. ? Coordinate event logistics. ? Request sponsorships and donations for the event. ? Coordinate marketing efforts including a press campaign, invitations and online promotions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
--Current enrollment in institute of higher learning or graduate of same. ? Special Event experience and/or related coursework. ? Excellent project management and organizational skills. ? Excellent written and verbal communication skills. ? Non-profit experience preferred, but not required.
Time Commitment:
6 to12 hours per week from May through the week after the event on August 3rd.
Location:
Downtown San Diego. Some work may be completed off-site.
