Internship description

About Us

Air Traffic Control (ATC) provides strategy and support to cultural leaders so they can play an effective and vital role in the promotion of social justice. ATC has become artists' air traffic control—one that develops capacity, efficiency, and coordination to produce stronger and more creative change partnerships.

Our office is collaborative and dynamic, and we are looking for one to two interns who are passionate about social justice and eager to learn more about the non-profit sector to join our team.

About You

You are someone with a strong research and writing background and critical thinking skills. You are hardworking, collaborative, communicative and flexible. You have a demonstrated interest in learning more about the nonprofit sector and are ready to dive in and learn a ton about the ins and outs of a small nonprofit. You are interested in the intersection of activism, philanthropy, and culture. You have a strong interest in one of our top issues: economy, elections, environment, immigration, women's rights, gun safety, equality, disaster relief, music education. You are social media savvy and aren't afraid to bring ideas to the table about how small organizations can best utilize and analyze social media.

What you will gain from this experience:

  • A hands-on understanding of nonprofits
  • A better understanding of activism and philanthropy
  • Depending on your activities, experience with some combination of:
    • Salesforce
    • YouTube
    • Social Media channels
    • Sparkwise
  • Experience researching and writing in a professional setting
  • Experience in action oriented organizing and metrics gathering
  • Brown bag lunches with yet to be determined leaders in philanthropy, the music industry, activism, and other fields

Primary Responsibilities:

Depending on the intern's strengths and interests, responsibilities will include some combination of the following:

  • Documenting media assets
  • Populating ATC's YouTube page with actionable videos by artists and other cultural leaders
  • Researching, tracking and documenting the activist/philanthropic activities, tour/album cycles, and issues of concern of our network
  • Logistical support with artist retreats
  • Gathering metrics from artists' social media channels and from related campaigns
  • Researching issue areas (women's rights, immigration, elections, environment, philanthropy, and music education, among others) and relevant opportunities for action
  • Providing support for our philanthropy program
  • Salesforce database entry and upkeep
    • cleaning up and monitoring the Salesforce database for any issues
  • Backend social media support
  • Biweekly review of our website and blog
  • Developing Sparkwi.se pages for our programs, issues, or other campaigns

Key experience and strengths:

  • Strong research background
  • Strong writing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically
  • Demonstrated interest in some combination of: Activism, Philanthropy, Music, and Comedy
  • The following is not necessary, but we would like to know if you have experience in: design, digital photography, film or event organizing

Logistics: For the summer, we are offering a full time 10-12 week internship that would require up to 40 hours in our office each week, depending on the intern's availability. There will be a few brown bag lunches with leaders in philanthropy, activism, the music industry, and the nonprofit sector.

Note: This internship is available to all, regardless of your financial situation. While this internship is unpaid, ATC will help excellent candidates explore options and otherwise support ways to lessen the financial burden of interning with us.

How to apply
