Communications Intern – New York City OfficeThe New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) is one of the nation's foremost defenders of civil liberties and civil rights. Founded in 1951 as the New York affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union, the NYCLU is a not-for-profit, nonpartisan organization with eight offices and 50,000 supporters statewide.

The NYCLU seeks to fill the position of part-time Communications Intern for the New York City office.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: · Assist the communications staff in strategizing and implementing campaigns to advance and defend civil liberties and civil rights. · Engage in a wide array of tactics utilizing traditional and new media to educate and mobilize New Yorkers on a wide range of civil rights and liberties issues. · Assist the Communications Assistant with the creation of NYCLU news summaries. · Build our social networks by engaging students on college campuses. · Disseminate "know your rights" publications in the community. · Assist on film shoots, and if possible, editing. · Respond to requests for support and information from the public. · Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: · A passion for and a familiarity with civil liberties issues. · Must be in college. · Excellent verbal and written communication skills. · Strong cultural competency. · Willingness to work flexible hours. · Spanish language skills a plus.
