Communications & Media Relations Internship
The Communications & Media Relations Intern will gain valuable insight into the world of non-profit public relations and communications by working directly with the USGBC Marketing & Communications team.
Overall responsibilities will include working with reporters, compiling media clips, writing media pitches and editorials, writing for print and web, assisting with social media content, pitching the media and contributing to media strategy planning. Interns will be encouraged to participate in planning meetings and contribute their ideas to marketing & communications plans and initiatives.
Internship details include:
- Write articles for trade publications, reporter pitches, website content, etc.
- Assisting with responding to reporter inquiries, providing reporters with relevant data, background and coordinating interviews
- Using Vocus and BurrellesLuce to compile relevant media clips
- Managing the press contacts database
- Assisting with social media content and strategy
- Participating in planning meetings and contribute to marketing and communications plans for major USGBC initiatives
Education & trainings requirements/preferences
- Current enrollment in, or recent graduation from undergraduate or graduate program of study
- Major or specialization in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, English, Business; or relevant experience preferred
Experience requirements
- Previous work experience in a marketing or communications position is preferred but not required
Other required skills and qualifications
- Commitment to USGBC's mission
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
- Strong writing and communications skills
- Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator strongly preferred
- HTML skills strongly preferred
