The Medical Assistant Extern will be responsible for performing a variety of functions essential to patient flow and to the smooth and efficient operation of the total clinic system. Duties will include providing basic information; greeting patients entering the clinic; maintaining patient records and files; filing lab results and patient charts; patient education and community referrals; performing lab work, including pregnancy tests; assisting during medical procedures as trained; miscellaneous office tasks; and performing other tasks as trained. Preferred qualifications include experience in a reproductive health clinic; customer service experience; experience answering office phones; knowledge of office procedures; accurate record-keeping, filing, and spelling; and ability to maintain patient confidentiality. Study in a medical assistant program is required. Bilingual skills and knowledge of reproductive health and community services are helpful. A minimum commitment of 150 hours is preferred. Commitment can be flexible to meet academic needs.
