The Academy of Medical and Public Health Services is a grassroots nonprofit organization working to enhance healthcare accessibility among underserved communities in the New York City area. We currently work primarily in the immigrant community of Sunset Park, Brooklyn, where over a quarter of the population is uninsured and nearly one-third suffers from chronic health conditions. As an entrepreneurial community-based organization, we are trying to fill in the gaps where the health care system leaves off. We do this by engaging in the community, researching their health care needs, offering free health screenings, health care assistance, education workshops, and community preparedness training, and connecting them with the resources they need--regardless of their immigration status. We are currently seeking candidates for long-term volunteers and Summer 2013 internships, who are seeking to become part of a dynamic team to innovate and implement new and existing programs. Candidates will be working both remotely, in the office, in the field, and at events.
The Executive Management Associate will be working directly with the President & Chief Executive Officer, and will be responsible for the implementation, development, and administration of the various programs at the Academy of Medical and Public Health Services. Responsibilities may include assisting with financial strategy and management, research, teaching assistance, translation of course material, drafting memos and administrative protocols, event coordination, and public outreach. While the position includes administrative tasks, the candidate will have the opportunity to learn about the different aspects of managing an entrepreneurial nonprofit organizing in an hard-to-reach immigrant community. The Executive Management Associate will report directly to the President & CEO.
This position does not require any prior experience in administration, but it is preferable. Candidates should have completed one year in an accredited undergraduate program. Candidates must be able to demonstrate strong leadership and organizational skills and be familiar with basic computer programs, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email clients. Knowledge in financial management & budgeting, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat Professional, graphic design, and/or foreign languages is a plus. The Executive Management Associate should be able to demonstrate competence in writing and communication, as he or she will be drafting administrative documents and communicating with chief officers, clients and outside agencies. Applicants to this position will be asked to submit a short writing sample.
