The Horticultural Society of New York (The Hort) is seeking a detail-oriented and creative student interested in assisting with administrative and curatorial work in our unique exhibitions program of plant-based artwork. You will also learn about non-profit work with a focus on providing environmental, cultural and educational resources for all New Yorkers. With a small staff, The Hort has an engaging workplace environment, with value on employee input and experience. The internship is flexible enough to accommodate a student's part-time work schedule. Ideally, interns are in the office two days each week for 10-12 weeks. You will work in a great office environment, with a green wall on the south facing side and plants integrated into the office architecture.
The internship is unpaid, but we can arrange for you to earn academic credit through your college or university.
Responsibilities include: corresponding with artists and galleries; arranging shipping and artwork loans; creating exhibition checklists and supportive materials; assisting with installations and exhibition-related public programs; and other administrative tasks working directly with our Director of Exhibitions. Experience with art handling and exhibition installation preferred but not required. This internship is ideal for someone interested in contemporary art, as well as gardening and the environment. Candidates must be well organized.
2 days per week – flexible schedule
