Internship description

Internship Description: The Development Intern will assist the Development Team in its efforts to build and maintain financial support from foundations, government, and individual donors. The internship is part-time (minimum 2 days per week) for a period of at least 3 to 4 months. Please note that this is an unpaid internship; however, we will work with students to obtain credit toward their coursework.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Researching individual and foundation prospects and creating profiles
  • Identifying and researching potential individual donors
  • Drafting invitations, thank you letters, and other donor cultivation materials
  • Drafting and/or editing proposals and grant reports to be sent to foundation donors
  • Assisting with the planning and organizing of donor cultivation opportunities
  • Attending events and meetings and taking notes where required
  • Assist in database maintenance/quality control and record-keeping, Raisers Edge experience preferred
  • Other tasks as required to assist with the overall strategy of the development team

Qualifications:

  • Advanced undergraduate or graduate degree student
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent research and analytical skills
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, follow-up, and administrative skills with a strong attention to detail
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as a part of a team in a
  • deadline-driven environment
  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite (emphasis on Word and Excel), Social Media (Facebook, Twitter , etc.)
  • Grant/proposal writing experience preferred
  • Previous experience in a non-profit environment preferred
