Development Communications Intern Summer 2013

Description

Friends of the Arava Institute (FAI) seeks a Development Communications Intern to work closely with the Communications Associate on outreach to our local and international audience. The intern will participate in several exciting new projects including a website redesign process, design of new publications, online fundraising campaigns, and student recruitment outreach. This is an excellent opportunity for a current student or recent graduate to apply marketing or communications knowledge in a practical setting. Our ideal intern is creative and independent with excellent written and oral communication skills. Formal education in marketing or communications is preferred though not required. The Development Communications Intern will gain a deep understanding of a wide variety of communications initiatives in the non-profit sector.

Development Communications Intern responsibilities:

General Communications

  • Create and format electronic and print documents including marketing materials, newsletters, donor communications, invitations, gifts, and other communications projects
  • Research and draft content for AIES website
  • Research and draft profiles for AIES students, alumni, and faculty
  • Provide editing support to the Communications Associate and National Executive Director
  • Manage the communications deliverables calendar

Marketing

  • Support the development of a communications driven stewardship program
  • Conduct email outreach to university professors and students regarding AIES
  • Work with Communications Associate to design a marketing plan promoting an online fundraising campaign
  • Work with Communications Associate to design a marketing plan promoting an alumni and faculty speaking tour, including social media and printed materials
  • Draft press releases and public service announcements

Qualifications:

  • Current college student or recent graduate
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative when needed
  • Ability to perform varied tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of Adobe programs including InDesign and Illustrator preferred
  • Previous marketing experience preferred
  • Familiarity with web based email marketing tools such as constant contact and Emma preferred
