Internship description

energy reality campaign

internship

Post Carbon Institute seeks a highly motivated, self-starting, IT-savvy individual committed to sustainable ideals and interested in progressive environmental issues as our Energy Reality Campaign Intern. Must have a good sense of humor. Yes, that says must.

Our new Energy Reality Campaign is an initiative to increase energy literacy among environmental activists, policymakers and the general public, and to promote energy conservation as a primary strategy to respond to what Michael Klare calls "the Age of Extreme Energy."

about the campaign

The Energy Reality Campaign consists of three distinct but interrelated strategies:

1. A publishing program that includes print and e-book versions of ENERGY: Overdevelopment and the Delusion of Endless Growth (a collection of stunning images and incisive essays, will demonstrate that human societies have become over-dependent on energy, and have turned a blind eye to the costs of our energy addiction). Books will be distributed to policymakers and thought-leaders in the energy field, as well as to environmental NGOs.

2. A targeted outreach campaign, recruiting and working with grassroots environmental organizations. This international campaign includes a book-granting program for campaign partners and a training program so that campaign partners can deliver powerful presentations to the public, policymakers, and other key community stakeholders.

3. A creative communications effort, utilizing social media, animations, a shareable image deck, and guerrilla art campaign.

responsibilities

The Energy Reality Campaign Intern will play a supporting role to the Campaign Director. Responsibilities will include:

  • Web research for campaigns, calls to action, and potential partner organizations
  • Web research to develop target list of book recipients (and procure contact information)
  • Information entry into database (contacts and communication)
  • Upload data points to website for mapping
  • Assist with tracking campaign information (keeping track of contacts, follow progress of partner organizations' campaigns, ensure accuracy of information submitted online)
  • Potentially assist with coordinating book shipments
  • Other responsibilities as needed

The Energy Reality Campaign Intern will report directly to the Campaign Director.

qualifications

We seek a self-motivated, knowledgeable, and flexible candidate who shares Post Carbon Institute's vision of a more resilient, equitable, and sustainable world. Key qualifications include:

  • Must be comfortable working on computer/database/Internet (opportunities for increased involvement in campaign IT depending on experience). Knowledge of graphic design and experience in detailed data entry a plus.
  • Understanding of (or at least interest in) energy and environmental issues.
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as within a team.
  • Good organizational skills, detail oriented, ability to prioritize and stick to deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with other staff members and coordinate with other team members.
  • Enthusiasm for the internship.

term, location

We seek a part-time (10-12 hours a week) intern to work with us for a period of one school semester. Job may be filled in our office in downtown Santa Rosa, California with potential for working remotely with weekly check-ins on the phone or in person.
