Internship description

Apprentices at Sankanac CSA, http://www.camphillkimberton.org/csa.php, receive intensive "on the job" training by working alongside mentor farmers. We participate in the North American Biodynamic Apprenticeship Program, www.bdtraining.org. The CSA offers a 1 or 2 year apprenticeships in biodynamic agriculture. We rely on apprentices to be self-directed in their learning endeavors, but are committed to supporting the learning process by offering some theoretical training opportunities as well. During the quieter season months apprentices receive some theoretical foundation in biodynamic and organic agriculture through regular mentor sessions, planning meetings, and ongoing agrarian and anthroposophical study groups. During the spring and summer apprentices can participate in weekly regular farm tours and mini seminars offered from May through October through the Sustainable Agriculture Internship Training alliance (SAITA) of Southeastern Pennsylvania. The Sankanac CSA is a 170 member Biodynamic garden situated in the rolling hills of beautiful Chester County, PA. In our 10-acre garden we grow a diverse seasonal mix of vegetables, flowers, herbs, fruit and small livestock. The garden is part of Camphill Village Kimberton Hills, a 432 acre agricultural and crafts community which focuses on life-sharing and specifically includes adults with disabilities. In addition to our CSA, Camphill Village Kimberton Hills also tends a grass fed dairy farm, an orchard, a small apiary, woodlands, a wood fired bakery, coffee shop, craft workshops and 17 life-sharing households. Room and board as well as a stipend of $130/month. Health care costs are covered after the first three months.
