Produced by American Documentary, POV ("point-of-view") is television's longest-running showcase for independent nonfiction film, premiering 14 to 16 high-impact documentaries every year on PBS. Hailed by critics as among the most important and relevant programming on television, POV films have won every coveted television and film award, including 32 Emmys, 15 George Foster Peabody Awards, 10 Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Broadcast Journalism Awards, three Academy Awards and the Prix Italia.

The development intern will provide support to POV's development and business affairs team. The internship is designed to provide a comprehensive experience in arts management and programming. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in learning more about development or nonprofit management.

The intern will work under the supervision of POV's development coordinator. The supervisor will meet with the intern on a weekly basis to check in on the progress of his/her work.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong research skills
  • Ability to analyze information and create clear written materials
  • Interest in fundraising
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office and FileMaker Pro

Duties:

  • Conduct research on individual, foundation, government and corporate prospects.
  • Create prospect profiles and briefing documents.
  • Support the preparation and production of proposals, reports and presentations as needed.
  • Support and attend special events as needed.
  • Data entry.
  • Generate reports and mail merges.
  • Prepare general correspondence.
  • Assist in management of year-round awards submission process.
  • Provide administrative support for the Development department, including telephone calls, emails, filing, faxing and copying.
  • Such other responsibilities as may be assigned.

Internships are unpaid, but travel stipends are available and college credit can be arranged. Non-students may also apply.
