Key Responsibilities:

Event Planning

  • Managing event journals (updating editorial, layout, tracking sales, and follow-up)
  • Item acquisition for auctions, raffles, and gift bags
  • Organize & purchase supplies for event as needed
  • Help to establish logistics for the events as needed
  • Data entry
  • Administrative tasks as needed

Initial Impact: The Special Events Intern's role is crucial in helping the Chapter in its planning of its Special Events

Sustainable/Long Term Outcome: The Special Events Intern will create long lasting partnerships the Chapter will use for years to come, resulting in increased awareness, funding, and participation at future Special events to help the Society to spread the word about MS and to ultimately achieve its goal of a world free of MS.

Training and Support: Initial volunteer orientation is provided along with staff and Chapter introduction and an overview of basic office equipment required to perform this position (i.e. fax machine, copier, etc…). Ongoing feedback and training is available from the Senior Development Manager/ Special Events

Commitment: 3 days a week during normal business hours. Office hours are Monday thru Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hourly commitments are flexible depending on availability. Some evening required.

Skills Needed:

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Persistent and consistent follow through
  • Creative, some graphic design experience helpful
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher
  • Great written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong planning skills

Qualifications:

  • Candidate must be outgoing, personable and have excellent communication skills
  • Candidate must be extremely comfortable on the telephone, and be able to make cold-calls to prospective sponsors and donors
  • Candidate must be flexible and able to adapt to changing assignments and schedules
  • Willingness to pitch in where necessary required
  • Ability to contribute new ideas is helpful
  • Writing and editing skills
  • In-office and event experience, preferred
