Job Description

The Bank Information Center (BIC) partners with civil society actors in developing and transition countries to influence the World Bank and other international financial institutions (IFIs) to promote social and economic justice and ecological sustainability. BIC is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organization that advocates for the protection of rights, informed participation, transparency, and public accountability in the governance and operations of the World Bank Group.

We are looking for a smart, dynamic individual who can help develop a strategy for engagement with World Bank Executive Directors. The goal of the project is for Executive Directors to be open and accountable to civil society in their constituency countries.

The internship is ideal for individuals seeking knowledge and experience in the areas of international affairs, especially on issues relating to multilateral institutions, development, international human rights, and the environment. The intern will communicate with high level World Bank officials, along with environment and social justice activists throughout the world. Our informal, dynamic structure enables interns to become immersed in BIC's day-to-day operations and gain extensive practical experience and knowledge of the IFIs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with BIC staff to develop a strategy for engagement with World Bank Executive Directors
  • Identify and communicate with civil society groups in partner countries who are concerned with issues of transparency at the World Bank
  • Develop a system of communication with World Bank Executive Directors
  • Update BIC website with accurate information about World Bank Executive Directors

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong research skills
  • Interest in transparency and accountability
  • Comfortable communicating with high-level officials
  • Self-starter
  • Familiarity with some of the following issues: environmental assessment, land rights, disability rights, children's rights, climate change, forests.
  • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred.

SALARY AND DURATION

This is an unpaid internship. Duration is six months (flexible), 3 to 4 days a week.
