Position: Youth Advisory Board Member
Location: Haitian Centers Council, Inc. (DBA Haitian-American Community Coalition, Inc./HCC), 123 Linden Blvd, 3rd Floor, Brooklyn, NY 11226
Time Frame: February 2013 – TBA
Commitment: Minimum 10 hours per week
The BIG LIVE (Being Involved Greatly Living In Various Environments) (TBL) motivates inner-city youth towards professional and personal achievements, hence raising their social status and improving their quality of life.
As a Youth Advisory Board member, you will use your skills and talents to provide a youth perspective on TBL's programs and inspire other youth to take initiative. We are seeking individuals who are experienced in the following fields:
- Public Relations
- Marketing
- Advertising
- Sales
- Journalism
- Web and/or Graphic Design
- Advocacy and Public Policy
- Fundraising
- Film/Documentary
- Research and Development
- Administrative
Daily Responsibilities
- Promote TBL's mission in motivating inner-city youth towards professional and personal achievements, hence raising their social status and improving their quality of life.
- Establish and maintain networking relationships with other organizations and community leaders as needed.
- Keep others informed of schedule, progress on tasks and project responsibilities.
- Become knowledgeable of the Brooklyn communities through community outreach.
- Consistently seek out and capitalize on networking opportunities.
Action Plans and Goals
Support TBL staff in:
TBL Youth Advisory Board
- Develop and maintain TBL Advisory Board and its executive committee.
- Provide administrative support during TBL Youth Advisory Board meetings as instructed.
- Assist in coordinating and facilitating TBL Youth Advisory Board meetings and conference calls.
- Assist in program development and community engagement.
- Maintain communication with interested participants via email, phone or social media.
Community Outreach
- Partake in coordination and facilitation of public information sessions and community-level events.
- Partake in community outreach and recruitment efforts.
Public Relations/Social Media
- Schedule and/or Participate in meetings with elected officials, CBOs and community leaders.
- Partake in development/raising public awareness of online social media campaigns as instructed.
- Recruit grassroots volunteers to become TBL Youth Advisory Board members
- Partake in developing, maintaining and hosting an online radio blog geared towards at-risk youth.
- Partake in developing and hosting online public video broadcasts geared towards at-risk youth.
Qualifications/Skills:
- MINIMUM: high school graduate; some college experience
- Commitment to TBL mission
- Strong and comprehensive Social Media skills
- Knowledgeable in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong oral and written communication
- Strong leadership skills
- Organized and focused in approach to work
- Flexible and able to multi-task
- Coachable and able to work both independently and within a team setting
