The Global Conscience Initiative (GCI) seeks to address and improve Cameroon's most pressing human rights issues: corruption, abuse of prisoners' rights, gender inequality, civil liberty deficiencies and lack of access to efficient and effective justice. Through promotion and protection of the human rights and freedoms enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as well as good governance, democracy, and social justice, GCI strives to help construct a strong global conscience where the citizens of Cameroon work together to create and sustain a peaceful civil society.
Based on the belief that lasting peace must come from within a people and their own culture, GCI focuses on working with individual citizens as well as the local media, government bodies, councils, law enforcement and judicial systems. By encouraging and empowering the public to play an active role in supporting peace and development, GCI strives to strengthen the communities with which it works. Through this, GCI works to facilitate the creation of networks of conscientious organisations and individuals who work together to promote democracy and human rights.
GCI is seeking a highly qualified individual to serve as a Communications Intern at its Kumba office. You will be primarily responsible for managing communications and public relations on behalf of the organization, including running social media, writing press releases and newsletters, and managing the weekly radio programme. You will also be responsible for helping restart and run the Media Watch Project, a programme that monitors human rights in the media, trains journalists on human rights reporting, and conducts advocacy campaigns in conjunction with local and national media outlets. Finally, you will have the opportunity to create and pursue projects on behalf of the organization within the scope of human rights.
