The Educational Alliance is seeking an engaging, media-savvy, polished and extremely well-spoken intern to drive positive visibility and awareness of the Educational Alliance and its programs through all forms of media, including print, online, broadcast and cable television outlets, as well as social media. He/she will report directly to the Chief Marketing Officer.
Qualifications:
Experience in implementing PR and media outreach campaigns (writing press pitches, getting stories placed in traditional print & broadcast TV media as well as online media, contacting and liaising with journalists, etc.) and social media campaigns. Ability to thrive in the media spotlight and represent our agency. Must be a people person, comfortable and happy working with people from all different walks of life. Coursework in journalism, communications, public relations or related course of study is a plus but not required
English-proficiency with excellent grammar and proofreading skills; an ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines; willingness to work as part of a team and show initiative and resourcefulness.
Responsibilities:
Continuously research, analyze and stay ahead of the curve on news and industry trends, and provide input to press strategy. Deliver positive media coverage and awareness. Work directly with experts, executives, and program staff within the Educational Alliance to maximize press opportunities and sustainable social media strategies. Maintain the agency's main Facebook and Twitter accounts, as well as the agency's blog. Draft, design, and manage regular eNewsletters.
This is a paid part-time internship.
The Educational Alliance is a non-profit organization that changes lives. Based in Downtown Manhattan and founded in 1889, the Educational Alliance currently serves 50,000 New Yorkers annually via 38 programs including preschools, camps, after school and college prep programs, senior centers, health & wellness programs, arts & culture classes, counseling services, addiction recovery programs, and the 14th Street Y. We are a Jewish organization serving people of diverse ethnic, religious and socio-economic backgrounds who live, work and learn in our neighborhoods – the Lower East Side and the East Village.
We are currently in the midst of an exciting renovation of our flagship building, which will be completed in late 2013. By incorporating visionary design and impressive space planning, it will be transformed into the Lower East Side's quintessential urban community center.
