MISSION: The Denver Scholarship Foundation (DSF) inspires and empowers Denver Public School students to achieve their postsecondary goals by providing the tools, knowledge and financial resources essential for success.
TITLE OF POSITION: Communications Intern (unpaid)
SUPERVISED BY: Communications Director
PURPOSE OF JOB: To assist with a variety of communications and marketing activities for DSF including social media, collateral development and event promotion. This volunteer will increase the effectiveness of our communications to students and the community to help us accomplish both our program and fundraising goals.
DUTIES MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Assist Communications Manager and DSF Advisors with using social media to raise awareness of DSF in the community and provide lines of communication with students
- Assist Communications Manager with the development of collateral materials, including writing, editing and working with designers and printers
- Assist with organizing and archiving news media clips
- Assist with updates to the development and community areas of the website
- Assist with the promotion of DSF's special event, including calendar postings, news release distribution, and social media
COMMITMENT REQUIRED: 8+ hours per week
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite; website development knowledge; and social media experience required
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Able to work independently with guidance from a supervisor
- Reliable, responsible and punctual
- Good organizational and communication skills, patience and attention to detail
- Background check may be required
- Preferred: Upper-level undergraduate or graduate student in communications, journalism or marketing
ORIENTATION AND TRAINING PROVIDED: Volunteer Orientations are held monthly and are required as an overview and first step for DSF Volunteers and Interns. Orientation pertaining to communications and IT and additional training to include using website updates and background information on past and present communications activities will be provided.
