Graphic Design & Photography Intern

About Starfish Project: Starfish Project was established in 2006 to empower exploited women in Asia. The Project developed a socially responsible jewelry business in order to provide women with alternative employment and a range of holistic care opportunities. In 2011, the project has grown to support approximately 35 women in 2 different cities, primarily through the jewelry company where women have taken on new levels of responsibility and leadership, and are able to provide for their families through meaningful employment. Starfish Project also provides opportunities for women to heal and grow through counseling, vocational training, language acquisition, family education benefits and health care access, as well as providing housing in our women's shelter. Location: Asia Office

Department: Operations: Sales & Marketing, Communications

Purpose of Role: To assist in developing aesthetic identity, publicizing events, and creating our product catalogs

Commitment: 6 months – 1 year, part-time (20 hours/week)

Reports to: Director of Sales & Marketing

Staff directly reporting to this position: none

The Graphic Design & Photography Internship has the option of being a Work/Study internship. Work/Study Internships allow for 10-20 hours/week of in-class language studies at a local language institution.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Design creative and effective print and electronic graphics for advertisements, newsletters, catalogs etc.
  • Work with the Sales & Marketing Director to develop consistent aesthetic across all Starfish Project graphics
  • Work with External Communications Intern to share photographs and graphics to heighten exposure via social media
  • Photograph all Starfish Project events
  • Assist in the design of product catalogs, including (but not limited to) photo editing, catalog layout, aesthetic, text, etc.
  • Photograph models for catalog
  • Photograph products for catalog and production needs
  • Assist in styling product and model photo shoots

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and InDesign
  • Strong graphic design and photography portfolio
  • Good aesthetic eye and strong sense of branding
  • Good time management skills; ability to work under a deadline with quick turnaround time
  • Excellent people skills and ability to work on a team
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Experience in branding, sales, and/or marketing, a plus
  • Experience working in a non-profit or charitable organization, a plus
  • Applicants who can provide their own photography equipment desirable.
