18th November 2013 to the 12th January 2014

10x Project Coordinators needed

We are looking for volunteers to support the UNEP Green Fins project for 8 weeks. The project has been established in the Philipppines since 2010 with a number of successes but as always there is still work to do. We are looking for 10 individuals to support the project with training and accreditations of Green Fins dive centres and general project development in the areas of El Nido- Palawan, Malapascua - Cebu, Moalboal - Cebu. There are also opportunities to manage projects outside of the diving tourism sector such as Education and Awareness building campaings, working with the local schools, supporting local NGO's, reef surveys and many more.

The successful applicant will be passionate about a future career in the marine science and/or conservation sector. Successful candidates might have a degree in Marine Science or related field and have a minimum of 50 dives and an internationally recognised SCUBA diving qualification. Additional asssignments or projects will be designed around each individual's strengths, interests and future career desires in order to better their experience. Zoox aims to support those who wish to develop practical and professional skills and the Zoox Experience Programme is not only beneficial to the project but also you as an individual wishing to further your career.

Marine Conservation and Diving

Placement Details

The first two to three weeks of the placement involves intensive training where you will be given all the information and tools you need for your assignment at the Training Centres based in Puerto Galera. The training includes Zoox's unique Training Modules (see website) but will include more individual sessions with you through our Professional Development programme. Each placement is bespoke as we work with you to identify your strengths and interests and use this information to design which activities you'll be involved in for the rest of your assignment.

Therefore the Zoox Experience Programme involves a huge variety of work but could include:

• Giving educational presentations about marine ecology, local laws and general marine conservation to people within the diving industry, local communities and the Philippine government • Conducting environmental assessments of dive centres (which will involve LOTS of diving) and consultation sessions with dive centre owners and managers • Coordinating environmental activities such as beach clean ups and reef monitoring • Managing and arranging meetings with various department of the Local Government Units • Conducting and training for monitoring marine habitat health

Marine Conservation Training

The skills you'll develop which are vital for your professional development and future employment will include:

• Diving skills • Travel and personal security aspects • Project and Financial Management • International Development • Report Writing • Understanding of International Environmental Policy Processes • Negotiation • Database Management • Understanding of Global Marine Conservation Funding • Training Skills • Presenting to large audiences in a variety of locations • Developing interpersonal communication skills

The end of the placement doesn't mark the end of our cooperation. We will have a Professional Development Feedback Session where we'll identify the skills you have developed and what jobs you will then be eligible for.

• Certificates of courses undertaken • A Reference from Zoox (provided all went well!) • Continued career support

Price

The cost is GBP£1,500 which will pay for training, the Zoox Welcome Pack (a Zoox shirt, a tough beach bag, unique splash-proof document wallet and information on your placement) with close coordination and support while you are on the placement for a minimum of 8 weeks. The individual is expected to cover all additional costs including flights, insurance, visas and personal costs (please visit the Zoox website to see an estimate of these costs).
