Internship Description:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Graphic Design intern who can commit between 5-40 hours per week to helping us to bring the Library For All project to life! We work in a vibrant, start-up environment with 50+ other companies at the Alley – perfect for the entrepreneurial spirit.

In return for your commitment, we are committed to providing each intern with the opportunity to work with the senior staff of the organization, earn college credit and/or references, and apply their skills in a number of areas that are of interest to them.

Library For All Overview:

Library For all exists to unlock knowledge, by building a digital library for the developing world.

Our mission is to be a conduit for knowledge, providing tools for individuals to learn, dream and aspire to lift themselves out of poverty, transforming families, communities and nations.

We are bringing together publishers, NGO partners and technology partners around the world to provide those living in poverty with free access to a digital library full of content.

This year we will launch our pilot program in Haiti, with the goal of reaching five million users within five years across the developing world.

Objectives:

Our objectives for 2013 are to:

  • Launch a kickstarter campaign to raise the initial funds to build the platform
  • Solidify existing relationships with publishers and other content partners that will help develop, stock and promote the Library For All platform
  • Partner with governments, NGOs, aid organizations and businesses working with the poor in developing nations to deliver access to the Library For All platform through schools, Universities, churches and community centers
  • Pilot and launch the Library For All platform in Haiti at the end of 2013
  • Raise the seed funding capital needed to hire staff and operationalize the library
  • Develop sustainable revenue models though data collection and analysis and advertising on the platform

Activities:

Some specific activities that we have planned for the end of this year:

  • Kickstarter campaign; Interns will help us to launch and run a successful Kickstarter campaign in April to raise the initial funds for the Library For All platform.
  • Business development; raising the seed funding for Library For All is an important priority. Led by the senior staff, interns will take initiative in helping us to build a community of people – both online and offline – who support the organization. This will include organizing fundraising activities, researching and complete grant applications, assisting with high net worth donor management, and partnership strategy and development.
  • Research; Interns will undertake a variety of research projects to provide the qualitative and quantitative foundation for the design of the program in Haiti and around the world.
  • Program design; Interns will also be involved in helping to prepare for the pilot study in late 2013, which includes designing the indicators, collecting the data, and analyzing the results.

We welcome applicants of all age groups and walks of life. If you are at college, we are happy to provide you with a letter or other notification to ensure that you can gain class credit for your work with Library For All.

For the right candidate, this internship will be a valuable opportunity to be a part of a start-up non-profit in an exciting environment that has significant support and ambitious goals to create lasting impact in the developing world.
