For almost 200 years, Episcopal Social Services (ESS), accredited by the Council on Accreditation, has helped meet the pressing needs of the vast numbers New York City's disadvantaged. ESS has remained flexible in responding to the changing needs of the disadvantaged with an unchanging mission to help children, families and other individuals become independent and self‐sufficient, and to make the most of their opportunities and potential. Today ESS, through its multi‐site programs and services, meaningfully touches over 5,000 lives every year throughout all of New York City, with an emphasis on the South Bronx and Manhattan. ESS's non-sectarian work focuses on strengthening children, families and adults through programs in foster care and adoption, early childhood education, after‐school initiatives, and group homes for developmentally disabled adults.

Job Summary: ESS is currently seeking Group Teachers in our Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn Early Childhood Day Care Centers. The Group Teacher will supervise the planning and execution of a program to provide day care for children ages 2-4 years old, taking into account the educational, social, developmental and health needs of the group, as well as the individual child. The Group Teacher will also assume responsibility for planning and conducting regular group conferences with classroom associates.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for meeting with parents annually to discuss student progress
  • Works within the frame work of the sponsoring agency
  • Supervises a given group of children in all activities; including trips and outings.
  • Promotes the professional growth of classroom association by sharing mutual knowledge
  • Promotes sound parent relationships by attending and participating in group parent meetings
  • Maintains objectives staff relationships
  • Conducts regular group conferences based on daily observation of associates performance
  • Share records with staff members when appropriate and in line with compliance standards
  • Responsible for weekly progress reports
  • Implements effective program curriculum
  • Completes assessments related to curriculum (i.e. progress of the children)
  • Completes all administrative responsibilities in a timely manner.
  • Develops a sound program that meets educational goals
  • Uses community resources to enrich educational content
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education, PLUS NYS Teacher's Certification in Early Childhood Education (Birth- Grade 2) OR Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education + Master's study plan
  • Completed or are in the process of obtaining the Child Development Associate (CDA) credential if degree is not concentrated in early childhood education a PLUS!
  • Two years experience working in a group setting with children
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • First Aid and CPR trainings required and recertified as needed
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
