TITLE: Graphic Designer

SCHEDULE: Full time

REPORTS TO: Senior Manager, Creative Services

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

The Jewish Museum, a Fifth Avenue museum of art and culture, seeks a talented graphic designer to create engaging print and electronic materials that enhance the institution's image while advancing core objectives. Design institutional, exhibition, development, membership, education and program-related promotional publications in consultation with the Senior Manager, Creative Services. Work involves full participation in the efforts of the Marketing and Communications Department to increase the number of visitors to the Museum in selected target audiences and to effectively communicate brand. Due to new leadership, the Museum's graphic identity and brand are undergoing significant alterations. New graphic identity is currently being developed by Sagmeister & Walsh.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design attractive and effective print and web promotional materials such as direct mail brochures, postcards and flyers, emails, exhibition invitations and signs, among other marketing collateral.
  • Work cross-departmentally on multiple publications.
  • Prepare design files for production.
  • Develop and maintain productive and cordial relationships with outside printers as well as staff at all levels throughout the Museum.
  • Adhere to production schedules and deadlines.
  • Review materials by outside designers for adherence to brand specifications.
  • Actively stay abreast of current design trends.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic or advertising design or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience designing marketing collateral or advertisements.
  • Experience managing multiple projects within tight deadlines.
  • In-depth knowledge of design principles and techniques including web design, web standards and related best practices.
  • Fluent in Adobe Creative Suite; InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Dreamweaver as well as HTML and CSS.
  • Previous experience supporting brand requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including ability to take direction and build productive working relationships.
  • Interest in art and culture preferred.
