YOUTH DESIGN is looking to secure a Director of Development + Organizational Strategy. We are looking for a vibrant, experienced, professional candidate who will bring innovation, strategic thinking and resourceful-ness to this role for Youth Design at this critical juncture in order to fully expand revenue streams, build capacity and leverage opportunities to raise vital funding to support Youth Design's growth and development.
Job Summary
The Director of Development + Operational Strategy's primary responsibility is to spearhead planning, development, management and implementation of Youth Design's core fundraising campaign with a goal of $4 million over the next 5 years. Will report directly to Executive Director and also work closely with the Director of Programs and Board of Directors to effectively manage the overall strategic and administrative operations of the organization as a member of the Senior Management team.
Role and Responsibilities
- Responsible to develop the strategy, action plan, processes & resources to raise $4 million over the next 5 years.
- Research, develop and submit foundation grants / maintain foundation proposal deadline calendar;
- Work with the Director of Programs to create a business plan to fully leverage the opportunities of fundraising engagement with the design community at large:
- Increase Corporate sponsorship and related services industries connected with design
- Increase Corporate Design Firm participation to support Youth Design's summer immersion mentorships and job placements
- Plan and implement an Annual Fund Campaign with a goal to increase individual giving;
- Plan, oversee and implement annual special events, including major benefit + cultivation events;
- Work closely with Executive Director and Board of Directors, engaging Board members in active fundraising initiatives and Board Development
- Participate in relevant networks and attend key events to ensure that Youth Design is visible,
well respected and well positioned for opportunities to advance the organization externally and
is well connected through deep stewardship within our community
- Work with Senior Management Team to develop strategic and tactical communication initiatives that increase the visibility of Youth Design, both locally + nationally; to support fundraising
Principle Accountabilities
- Achieve annual contributed income goals (individual and foundation) (corporate sponsorship);
- Measure the success of comprehensive fundraising initiatives and provide written quarterly reports to the Executive Director and Board
- Establish relationships, engagement and stewardship with donors, foundations and Board of Directors; media and other agencies
- Work collaboratively with Executive Director and Director of Programs to fully understand goals, focus and potential areas of support specifically to Program as it relates to fundraising plan
- Contribute and provide support to Executive Director in the area of evolving organizational development; to support capacity, build resources/infrastructure to support fundraising initiatives
Planning & Budgeting
- Responsible for the action plan & implementation of fundraising mission, goals and financial objectives. Ensure that evaluation systems are in place to map against goals and objectives
- Work in collaboration with Executive Director and our Financial Consultant to chart the financial direction of the organization and to establish annual operating budget, assuring its accountability to all constituencies and ensuring operational effectiveness
- Develop short- and long-term plans and budgets for the fundraising program and its activities: monitor progress, assure adherence and evaluate performance
Organizational Strategy
- Help make sure that the Organization's philosophy, mission and vision are pertinent and practiced throughout the organization and pulled through all fundraising strategies and initiatives
- Help formulate and administer policies to ensure the integrity of the Organization
- Act as an internal consultant to bring attention and solutions to institutional priorities
- Recommend short-and long-term Organization goals and objectives to the Executive Director
- Develop, implement and monitor systems and procedures necessary to the smooth operation of the Development function as well as overall operations of the organization
- Help lead the Organization to operate with initiative and innovation at its core
Leadership on Management Team
- Board management and support in collaboration with Executive Director as it relates to fundraising
- Maintain an office culture that attracts, retains and motivates staff, interns and volunteers;
- Recruit, train, appraise, supervise, support, develop, promote and guide qualified personnel, both paid and volunteer
- Support cross-functional teamwork throughout the Organization, modeling positive behavior
Qualifications
- Minimum of 6-8 years experience in a senior development/fundraising position within a non-profit organization, responsible for raising big gifts
- Demonstrated success in achieving fundraising goals
- Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of fundraising, strategic planning, implementation and oversight of fundraising activities;
- Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and personal skills;
- Experience developing and managing budgets, supervising and appraising personnel;
- Commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams;
- Strong oral and written communications skills;
- Ability to manage multiple projects at a time;
- Minimum Bachelors Degree.
