MORNINGSIDE CENTERfor Teaching Social Responsibility educates young people for hopeful and intelligent engagement with their world. A national leader in fostering social and emotional learning (SEL), Morningside Center reaches tens of thousands of educators and students each year through an array of programs that develop such skills as handling anger, being assertive, solving conflicts creatively and nonviolently, and dealing well with diversity. We support students in taking leadership to improve their communities--from the classroom to the world.

PAZ is program of Morningside Center and offers an exciting and progressive after-school experience that expands students' academic and social emotional learning skills through activities in peace education through conflict resolution, cooperative games, literacy, performing arts, and student led community projects. The program operates from 3-6pm Monday- Thursday. We are seeking applicants who are passionate about a holistic approach to education and social change.

Group Leaders will be responsible for the following:

Modeling behavior that reflects understanding of social emotional learning(SEL) and conflict resolution (CR) principles for students, staff, and parents.

•Supervising groups of up to 20 students with a co-group leader in various scheduled activities

•Designing activities aligned with our SEL and CR framework with co-group leader.

Assisting children with homework assignments and leading interactive literacy activities.

•Other duties include attendance, moving groups around to scheduled activities, and distributing snacks

•Assisting specialists in teaching: 1) cooperative games and sports 2) conflict resolution classes, and 3) Modern Art/Music/Dance

•Communicating with site coordinator on issues, concerns or suggestions.

•Incorporating P.S. 214's Social Emotional Learning Philosophy into your after-school classroom behavior plan. (We will respect ourselves as well as others. We will respect our school environment. We will use Conflict Resolution strategies to resolve our conflicts. We will all be active learners.)

•Attending training sessions provided by Morningside Center and/or The After-School Corporation

Counselors will report directly to the After-School Program Site Coordinator. PAZ is a collaboration between Morningside Center, and P.S. 214 in the Bronx, NY
