ABOUT THE POSITION

The Regional Director drives high quality performance of a portfolio of schools by providing leadership and vision for a growing staff and coordinating school coaching, program development, school and community relationships, staff development and new business development. This position reports to the Chief Schools Officer.

The Regional Director position is an ideal opportunity for someone to play a key leadership role in a growing and dynamic organization that is committed to helping students across the U.S. achieve at high levels of academic achievement.

Specific responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Growing and sustaining a portfolio of high performing schools.
  • Coordinating the effective delivery of EL services to schools, ensuring that budgeted services are maximized, client satisfaction is enhanced, and school performance is monitored and continuously improved.
  • Working with the Chief Schools Officer, to increase the quality and number of schools working with EL, consistent with the organization's goals, objectives and capacity.
  • Planning and monitoring implementation of professional development activities for all regional staff.
  • Increasing awareness of EL and serving as the organizational ambassador in communities and districts where EL schools are located.
  • Providing leadership and vision for the national organization as a member of the national leadership team and assisting in planning and facilitating national conferences and professional development offerings.
  • Collaborating with the President and Chief Advancement Officer to cultivate and secure local philanthropic support.
  • Managing the regional staff: recruiting, training and retaining qualified staff; overseeing work plans, overseeing budget and office technology.
  • Regularly providing direct school designer support in schools throughout the region.
  • Regional Director occasionally does the coaching work of a school designer as part of the position. However, this work does not exceed 30 days each year.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Regional Directors believe deeply in EL's mission and display a record of achievement.

Candidate Requirements include:

  • Master's Degree in Education, leadership or a related field strongly preferred
  • 5 years classroom teaching experience, preferably in Expeditionary Learning or similar schools
  • Significant experience in school and/or district leadership
  • Experience teaching and facilitating adult professional learning
  • Strong people management skills and the ability to motivate, excite, inspire, and educate both internal and external resources
  • Ability to make data-driven decisions and coach and mentor others on this approach
  • Proven ability to collaborate and build relationships with stakeholders across functional and organizational lines
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with an ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and thrive in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Willingness to travel 45% and work flexible hours (e.g. ability to work and travel some weekends with comp days in return)
