Job description

Idealist.org is hiring talented web developers to solve engineering problems that go beyond the browser and help people act on their intentions for the common good.

We're looking for dedicated web developers who are fluent in mobile and cross-browser client-side technologies. We want you to obsess about user experience, page performance, and elegant interfaces, but also be comfortable diving down the stack into controllers, models, and databases. You'll also go hands-on with *nix systems serving hundreds of thousands of pageviews each day.

We live and breathe open source, and if you work here you'll be using all kinds of OSS projects and contributing patches (but you already do that, so no biggie right?) You're energetic, driven, and inquisitive, and you'll feel right at home on our dynamic agile development team. If this sounds hip as disco, come join our Portland web engineering team. Here you can think big while also sweating the details. Your work can have an immediate impact!

Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge of web standards and technologies
  • Fluent in JavaScript development and at home with the full front-end technology stack
  • Desire to build future-facing, responsive web applications with new technologies
  • Server-side development skills — experience building REST interfaces and accessing SQL and noSQL data stores, in dynamic languages like Python, Ruby, Javascript, etc
  • Agile development experience required

Idealist was launched in 1995 with an ambitious goal: to be the starting place for anyone anywhere who wants to make the world a better place. Today Idealist is the most popular online resource for the nonprofit sector, with a staff of 30 in New York and Portland.
