Assistant Director of Training and Staff Development

Description

SCO is looking for a well- qualified Assistant Director of Training and Staff Development!

The Assistant Director will support the management of the central Training and Staff Development department of a large human services agency which is responsible for: building capacity and competency of staff; creating professional development opportunities and pipeline; ensuring compliance with training requirements of regulatory and accreditation agencies; and coordinates a training council for the agency.

MINIMUM RESPONSIBILITIES:

Agency Wide Training and Staff Development Priorities

  • Support the management of the Department's core training programs for 4,400 SCO employees working in 90 programs addressing: education and youth services; early childhood; shelters and homeless services; foster care; family.
  • Supervises SCO training staff and support the development of training objectives, strategies, policies, and programs.
  • Develop a monthly training calendar, appointing staff trainers at various training locations.
  • Collaborate with the Department of Quality Improvement and Corporate Compliance to implement identified corrective actions through training and technical assistance.
  • Author new training curriculum/leverage external resources to address staff training needs of new programs.
  • Coordinate training opportunities outside the agency.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Align Training with Compliance and Regulations

  • Ensure that training needs of SCO staff are being met in accordance with regulations and best practice standards.
  • Incorporate new policy/regulatory requirements into existing or develop new training curricula as needed.
  • Develop and maintain systems for tracking and reporting staff training requirements, staff compliance with required training and registration of staff for training.

Mobilize and Coordinate Training Resources Across the Agency

  • Work with staff trainers who work in programs, to assess and address the training needs of SCO's programs support; special needs, health and behavioral health services. Formalize this activity into an SCO training council.
  • Identify and coordinate cross-training opportunities, leveraging the strengths of program trainers/staff to teach colleagues/staff in other SCO programs about program initiatives and practices that are transferable.

Transition SCO training and Tracking to an Online learning Management System

  • Support the start-up and implementation of an online Learning Management System (LMS) for
  • Develop and implement staff training on the LMS for existing staff and new staff during the SCO orientation.
  • Author on-line courses and customize online curriculum to address SCO's training needs.
  • Support the migration of training where appropriate, from classroom-based training to online training.
  • Support the transition of the agency's system for tracking staff training to an online system through the LMS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Social Services, Human Services, Training or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a social service or human service agency, with at least two of those years supervising professional staff.
  • Experience as a trainer/staff developer serving vulnerable populations.
  • Proficiency in multiple software applications, including most Microsoft Office and Excel products.
  • Developing /Authoring Curriculum on line and for classroom based instruction
  • Cross- functional teamwork
  • Interpreting policy and interfacing with regulatory agencies
  • Experience with online learning and learning management systems.
