We are seeking a motivated, self-starting individual to work as a full time Coordinator. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in gaining community outreach, program implementation and project management experience within the aging service field.

Program Description: The Older Adult SNAP Enrollment Initiative is an innovative and unique program that places friendly, knowledgeable volunteers and carefully selected, highly-trained retired professionals within low-income, high-needs communities throughout New York City to educate older adults about food assistance options, and screen and enroll those who are eligible for SNAP benefits.

About CSCS: CSCS' mission is to champion the rights of older adults to make NYC a better place to live. CSCS is recognized as the lead NYC-based organization representing aging issues and advocating for needed community based services which allow older adults to age with dignity. With over 100 member organizations providing community based services through more than 600 programs, CSCS' members range from individual community-based centers to large multi-service, citywide organizations. CSCS' work ranges from enabling healthy aging and supporting family caregivers to promoting economic security and addressing elder hunger. Through its network and initiatives, CSCS serves the 1.4 million older New Yorkers in every community district and virtually every socioeconomic background that comprise the population of NYC.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate with and assist Director of Trainings and Innovations in order to implement the SNAP Outreach Program
  • Work with ongoing program volunteers to coordinate tasks, solve problems and determine schedules
  • Manage enrollment/screening sites and outreach events to promote program activities and enroll older adults in SNAP
  • Assist in benefit enrollment mediation issues as needed to ensure clients' successful receipt of SNAP benefits
  • Represent CSCS at meetings and other forums in order to expand reach of program
  • Create and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in order to grow the program
  • Maintain all client information and case data in CSCS' database in order to track and report on program outcomes
  • Assist with meeting coordination and administrative tasks in order to keep initiative on task

Skills and Qualifications

  • Comfort interacting and work with older adults
  • Commitment to working for social justice; background in anti-poverty work preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of one year relevant experience.
  • Strong oral, written and organizational skills.
  • Ability to reach out effectively to low-income older adults and community-based organizations eligible for program benefits.
  • Good conceptual, strategic thinking and creative skills.
  • Detail-oriented planning and implementation skills.
  • Ability to manage several tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong teamwork capabilities.
  • Ability to speak Spanish a plus.
  • Knowledge of aging issues and/or benefits and entitlements is preferred
