The Learning and Teaching Division has an opening for a Learning and Teaching Unit Finance Manager, reporting to the Division Finance Director. The position is based in the Center For Children and Technology (CCT) located in the EDC Office in New York, NY.

EDC's Learning and Teaching Division advances domestic education programs that span pre-K through grade 12 and beyond. LTD has expertise in mathematics, science, technology, literacy, media literacy, early childhood education, special education, workforce development, and leadership development. The Center for Children and Technology (CCT) is a research and development center within EDC's Learning and Teaching Division and is based in New York City. Founded in 1980, CCT investigates how technology can influence and enhance teaching and learning across a wide range of educational settings. CCT conducts basic, applied and formative research, working in collaboration with educational, corporate, government and research institutions. CCT also designs and develops prototype software and instructional resources that support engaged, active learning.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - The person in this position is expected to work collaboratively with LTD Leadership and Administrative staff; communicate clearly and courteously with external funders and internal colleagues; use technology effectively to create efficiencies and streamline communications; to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, collaborators, co-workers, field sites, and funders; and to work respectfully with EDC colleagues. The job requires adherence to EDC policies & procedures.

The Unit Finance Manager will work closely with the Unit Director to implement financial and strategic planning; model, apply, and communicate financial best practices; and develop, review, and interpret fiscal reports for the purpose of informing the Unit Director and Division Finance Director. The person in this role will be responsible for managing all aspects of a unit's financial resources. This includes, but is not limited to, creating and updating fiscal year forecasts using Enterprise Planner; providing cost to complete budgeting for a diverse portfolio of projects; and financial oversight of all project and G&A expenditures. The Unit Finance Manager:

• Prepares and monitors budgets for funded projects, business plans, and G&A accounts

• Provides essential proposal development support including: developing proposal budgets in accordance with funder RFP's, aligning budgets with proposal work plans, refining proposal budgeting models, and collaborating with EDC's Office of Sponsored Programs to ensure organizational compliance

• Develops multi-revenue stream business plans, analyzes profit and loss statements to ensure program fiscal viability and to identify over- or under-spending.

• Develops and monitors Unit G&A and Bid and Proposal budgets, including monthly analysis, to identify over- or under-spending

• Works closely with LTD project directors to provide fiscal management of obligated funding in compliance with EDC policies and procedures

• Serves as liaison between the Unit, LTD Leadership, Accounting, Presidents Office and the Office of Sponsored Programs to facilitate budget development, provide accurate financial information, the proposal process, and unit financial management systems

• Facilitates the executions of new grants/contracts and monitors the terms of those grants/contracts in close coordination with EDC's Office of Sponsored Programs

• Models standards of accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to policies that enable others to perform with due diligence

QUALIFICATIONS - This position requires excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups; and strong interpersonal & organizational skills. Specific requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or Management concentration required

• At least 4-8 years experience in financial management, specifically in developing and managing budgets in a sponsored research, non-profit environment; preparation and analysis of financial reports, and administrative coordination experience

• Advanced knowledge of spreadsheet modeling, able to build dynamic spreadsheets with multiple variables, create reports and analyze data using Cognos reporting software using Excel, other spreadsheet applications and the Internet

• Ability to take initiative and to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines; attentiveness to detail

• Familiarity with IBM Enterprise Planner ideal

• Previous experience developing business plans with diverse revenue streams preferred
