Summary

KIPP San Francisco College Prep will open in August 2013 and will serve the students of KIPP Bayview Academy, KIPP San Francisco Bay Academy, and other San Francisco students who are committed to doing whatever it takes to get to college. We are seeking a founding staff of committed teachers and support professionals.

About KIPP Bay Area Schools

In the San Francisco Bay Area, five KIPP middle schools and two KIPP high schools are closing the achievement gap between low-income students and their more advantaged peers. In the fall of 2013, a third high school, KIPP San Francisco College Preparatory, will open in San Francisco. These tuition-free, college-preparatory schools are located in the under-served neighborhoods of Bayview Hunters Point and the Western Addition in San Francisco, East San Jose, San Lorenzo, and West Oakland. KIPP Bay Area Schools serves more than 2,500 students.

Position Overview

The Student Services Coordinator is responsible for managing the front office of the school and supporting the staff in creating a joyful learning environment. S/he will serve as first point of contact for any students, families, staff, or visitors in the office. S/he will assist in the implementation and maintenance of clear operational systems that allow the instructional team to focus on teaching and learning. This position is an excellent opportunity for an entrepreneurial go-getter to be on the founding team of an innovative high school.

This position reports to the Operations Manager. This is a half-time (twenty hours a week) non-exempt position starting July 1, 2013, and will turn full-time starting the 2014-15 school year.

Duties and Responsibilities

Front Office and Daily Operations

  • Welcome and direct visitors according to school's sign-in procedure
  • Address all office communications, including incoming calls, faxes, files, mail, and deliveries
  • Maintain complete and accurate student records in cumulative folders and in the student information system
  • Place orders for office supplies, student store items, textbooks, and other materials
  • Place orders for school meals, monitor wasted meals, and collect fees as needed
  • Store and administer medication to students as prescribed by doctor or physician
  • Attend first aid training and perform first aid as needed

Student Attendance

  • Distribute tardy slips as needed to students at the beginning of the school day
  • Make morning calls home to students who are absent, and if needed, coordinate absent students' homework drop-off and pick-up
  • Coordinate daily attendance taking, check records, and turn in weekly attendance sheets to Operations Manager for review
  • Coordinate parent requests for student early dismissal according to school's dismissal process

Enrollment

  • Manage all incoming applications and enrollment paperwork for new and returning students
  • Assist in student recruitment activities, preparing for the enrollment lottery, and coordinating orientation meetings for new students

Communications

  • Help prepare weekly bulletins in English and Spanish to distribute to team & family
  • Assist in the preparation of all parent communications, including letters and report cards
  • Assist in maintaining updates and newsletters on school website

Miscellaneous support

  • Manage inventory of all textbooks, novels, and other library books
  • Manage the student store and assist with any school fundraisers
  • Help plan and host on-campus and off-campus school events, including student field trips
  • Assist team as needed to build a safe, joyful learning environment

Skills and Qualifications

  • High school diploma required
  • Spanish fluency strongly preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience, 3 or more years strongly preferred
  • Experience working in a school or non-profit preferred
  • Ability to self-direct, prioritize and multi-task among competing goals
    • Comfort with working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
    • Demonstrated ability to work well with others and build relationships across teams
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with keen attention to detail
    • Unquestioned integrity and commitment to KIPP Bay Area Schools' mission and values
