(Temporary Full-Time Position)

Overview:

NCRW is a network of leading university and community-based research, policy and advocacy centers dedicated to advancing rights and opportunities for women and girls. We also have a Corporate Circle comprised of senior diversity professionals from leading U.S. and global member companies and a Presidents Circle of college and university leaders who share our commitment. NCRW harnesses the collective power of its network to provide knowledge, analysis, and thought leadership on issues ranging from reducing women's poverty to building a critical mass of women's leadership across sectors.

As a temporary member of the NCRW team, the Researcher/ Writer will report to the VP for Programs. The successful candidate will be able to locate a wide variety of gender-related research taking place in academic and non-academic contexts; to translate complex issues into consumer-friendly content; and to write talking points, explainers, commentaries, feature stories and other materials that inform and help advance conversations about gender.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collect, aggregate, and translate data, research, and commentaries from a multitude of primary and secondary sources into meaningful content for NCRW's Program features
  • Write summaries, talking points, briefs, explainers, etc. to support NCRW senior management and constituents in highlighting key findings from cutting-edge research related to the advancement of women and girls; candidate will be able to orient materials to varied audiences, including academia, policy, philanthropy, business, government, and the general public
  • Analyze data and research within and across fields to draw meaningful conclusions about potential real-world implications for policy and practice
  • With VP for Programs, identify emerging trends, growing challenges, and topics for NCRW to explore more deeply through its programming
  • With VP for Programs, maintain dashboard of metrics related to women and girls across a variety of sectors; use dashboard to provide immediate and accurate responses to ad hoc information requests from constituents
  • Develop continuous communication loop with member centers and other key constituent organizations to ensure up-to-date content (including recent publications, events, and other activities) for NCRW's program features
  • With the Associate Director of Communications, proactively update the website with timely, relevant content, particularly related to Member Center research; ensure data is be intelligently archived, organized intuitively and accessible to the public
  • Support Program Committee of the Board of Directors and member center-related activities, projects and convenings as needed
  • As appropriate, assist other departments and work as a member of interdepartmental teams to ensure the effective and efficient operations of NCRW. At all times, demonstrate cooperative behavior with supervisors and coworkers.

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in a relevant field (e.g. public policy, women's studies)
  • Ability to translate conceptual thinking into practical programming components
  • Ability to explore and apply a gender lens across topics and sectors
  • Exemplary research skills, preferably in a non-profit environment; experience with large databases, including government databases, would be highly valued
  • 3 – 4 years policy or research experience in women's issues is a plus
  • Flexible research and writing skills that allow for fluid movement from one programmatic area to the next
  • High personal motivation, self-management, and detail-orientation; ability to take responsibility in meeting deadlines and making progress independently
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills, working knowledge of Constant Contact, DonorPerfect, Druppal, a plus.
  • Comfort, ability, and willingness to work in a diverse environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills and ability to network comfortably and effectively in both public and private sectors
  • Flexibility, patience, a willingness to take on multiple tasks, efficiency, a friendly disposition, sense of humor, and problem-solving skills
  • Interest and commitment to gender rights, women's rights, and feminism

Salary: $50,000
